Community Agreements

Use the the-world-to-come-twincities@groups.google.com email address to send an email to everyone on the listserv.

Ensure that the subject line of your email conveys key information about what your email contains. Be concise and precise in your subject lines. 

• We may ask that you use bracketed topics at the beginning of your subject lines (for example, [Events] or [Request]).

You can unsubscribe from the listserv by scrolling to the very bottom of any email sent via the group and clicking on the link to unsubscribe (or send an email to the-world-to-come-twincities+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com). You can also change your settings at https://groups.google.com/ to get emails bundled, in digest form, or remain in the group but not get emails.

Be mindful of how often you post to the list.

Refrain from excessive marketing. (We understand that “excessive” is subjective).

Unless it is relevant to the entire list, please respond only to the person who sent the email. If a topic sparks conversation among several people, consider inviting a smaller group email or exchange contact information to talk in person. The organizing collective might remind you of the following guidelines about when to take a conversation offline:

• When the conversation becomes more complex/involves extensive discussion/is raising a lot of questions

• When it’s clear that there’s energy to move forward with the topic for planning or further exploration

• When there’s no forward progression in the conversation/when it becomes an unproductive back and forth

• When something is urgent

• When it’s clear that the topic is eliciting a strong negative emotional response

• When there may be potential hurt feelings/harm done/apologies needed

We want WTC to be a community that respects the diversity of Jewish life, is welcoming and curious, honors the time and capacity of others, serves the needs of our community, and is grounded in connection and our shared values. WTC is a volunteer-led, community-grown space that values autonomy and shared power. We all must take responsibility for building the space we want to see together. 

Do not share any events that are in violation of our values.

Do not share AI-generated images or text in this group. (Why? Read here and here!)

If you are sharing an event, please provide accessibility information about the event, including COVID safety and information about the physical space.

Include image descriptions (when you include a picture, please describe it in words).

Use simple language when possible, and translate non-English words, including Hebrew and Yiddish. 

Refrain from using ableist language (such as “crazy,” “fell on deaf ears,” or “turned a blind eye”).

Members age 18+ can be on the listserv. Additionally, members aged 14-17 can be on the listserv with parental or guardian approval.

Assume any information shared in this group is accessible by the state or infiltrators. Please do not share any sensitive information, plan actions or illegal activity, engage in libel, or offer legal advice.

Treat each other with kindness and respect, and work towards repair when trust is broken. Remember that everyone in this group has agreed to uphold these guidelines.

We take excluding people from community seriously, and believe that everyone has the capacity to change. We intend to address harm as it comes up, and do not want to litigate past behavior or interpersonal conflict, but instead to address community and public violations of our agreements as needed. 

When you have been hurt by someone’s comment, replying-all is not always the best option. Contacting them directly or offline is better in some circumstances.

If you have feedback about The World To Come programs, consider emailing the organizing collective directly rather than the whole list.

The organizing collective intends to create a conflict and teshuvah working group in 5787 that will include members of WTC. We want this to be an intentional and collective process. In the meantime, if there is a violation of these community agreements, please email the organizing collective or contact a member of the collective. 

• The collective makes decisions with a consensus-based process, and until we have a more robust conflict resolution team, the organizing collective will review proposals from members regarding violations of these guidelines and make a decision.
